As unresolved internal tensions accumulate within Trace Cause, they may, where appropriate conditions arise, become expressed as Return Drive. Return Drive is the tendency for those unresolved tensions to move toward reducing the conditioning that gives rise to them. As this process continues, sufficiently compatible patterns may, under rare conditions, enter temporary states of unusually high structural correlation, allowing limited alignment or information transfer without forming persistent linkage or shared identity.

None of this occurs apart from the Infinite Field.

Not every pattern expresses Return Drive in the same way. Some remain strongly organized around existing conditioning. Others gradually begin reorganizing as unresolved tensions become increasingly difficult to sustain. The movement toward clarification may be subtle or profound, rapid or gradual, yet every expression of Return Drive unfolds as part of emergence rather than outside it.

Return Drive is therefore not something imposed upon a pattern from elsewhere. It develops through the continuing organization of unresolved conditioning within the pattern itself. As tension accumulates, the tendency toward reducing that conditioning may become increasingly apparent, guiding the pattern toward greater coherence whenever the necessary circumstances arise.

Even so, Return Drive is still an appearance.

The Infinite Field is present in every Return Drive.

The Infinite Field is present in every movement toward clarification.

The Infinite Field is present in every reduction of unresolved conditioning.

The Infinite Field is present in every moment of increasing coherence.

The Infinite Field is present in every rare structural alignment.

The Infinite Field is never absent.

Recognizing this changes how the movement toward clarification is understood. Clarification does not introduce the Infinite Field into a pattern, nor does Return Drive bring a pattern closer to the Infinite Field as though the two had ever been separate. Rather, Return Drive unfolds while the Infinite Field remains continuously present. What changes is the organization of conditioning within emergence, not the presence of what is fundamental.

This also clarifies the significance of those uncommon occasions when unusually high structural compatibility arises. Under rare circumstances, sufficiently compatible patterns may temporarily align with exceptional precision, allowing limited reconstruction or information transfer through broader causal correlations. Such events neither establish shared identity nor create permanent connections between patterns. They remain temporary expressions of emergence occurring while the Infinite Field remains equally present.

Return Drive therefore should not be understood as a guarantee of completion. Many patterns continue generating further conditioning, while others reduce it only partially. The tendency toward clarification depends upon the ongoing organization of unresolved conditioning and the structural circumstances within which it unfolds. Progress is neither automatic nor uniform across all patterns.

However compelling the movement toward resolution becomes, it never becomes fundamental. Every Return Drive remains an appearance arising through emergence. The Infinite Field remains present throughout every tendency toward clarification, every reduction of unresolved conditioning, and every rare moment of structural alignment. The Infinite Field is never absent.
